Carer cleared of stealing money from dead pensioner

Wesley secured her acquittal after trial, despite the client having told the police (incorrectly) at her first police interview that the money had been withdrawn the day before her employer passed away and despite the deceased’s family members strenuously asserting that they had not given her any permission to withdraw the money.

Wesley showed on the evidence that the client was still due wages from her last week and a half of employment and the amount withdrawn matched the amount she was due. Counsel conveyed that the client was close friends with her previous employer and convinced the court that she was not the sort of lady who would steal from her employer.
