G4S received maximum sentence for breaching s.8 (1) Health Act 2006 after pleading guilty to four charges of failing to stop detainees at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre from smoking.

The prosecution was brought after the High Court had ruled that the exemption under the Health Act 2006 that applies to prisons did not apply to immigration removal centres.

The case was prosecuted by Syan Ventom, instructed by Crawley Borough Council.
