Called in 1992, David practiced in London and Exeter, and having initially been a defence advocate, has now been specialising in regulatory law for over 15 years.
Regularly appearing in Public Inquiries before the Office of the Traffic Commissioner representing Companies, Transport Managers and drivers, he also provides advocacy on their behalf when prosecuted by the DVSA. He accepts instructions on from both solicitors and Companies directly in this regard and is keenly aware of truncated timescales within this process.
His Health and Safety practice combines court advocacy and general advice dealing with all manners of alleged breaches. He regularly assists solicitors in advising on strategies to adopt in the early stages of any investigation.
His knowledge of Health and Safety law has led to a close workign relationship with Aon and ACT (National) ltd where he drafts, leads and presents training to individual Companies and at large scale events on their behalf. This work has a focus on prevention rather than the usual input by Counsel “after the event.”
Additionally, he is often instructed to defend in cases brought by the Environment Agency and the variety of regulators within the fishing industry.
David has extensive Licensing Act and Taxi Licensing experience at all levels.
Having also worked as an integral Legal Advisor for a Constabulary he has defended Police Officers who face disciplinary proceedings as well as extensive experience in Firearms licensing and POCA issues.
Additonally, he regularly accepts instructions from the First/Upper Tier Tribunal across the regulatory spectrum.
David is authorised to accept instructions by direct access, he finds himself regularly assisting individuals who face discqualification from driving and providing advocacy across a whole range of criminal/ regulatory matters.
He is an accredited Mediator (CEDR)
