Ned Sillett’s success in the Court of Appeal
Published on 26/02/2026
Ned Sillett was successful in the Court of Appeal in an appeal against sentence regarding a young autistic man with no previous convictions who pleaded guilty to s. 20 GBH. He was sentenced to 18 months’ immediate custody. Ned argued that the sentence was manifestly excessive and that the sentencing guidelines for sentencing offenders with neurological impairments had not been applied.
The appeal was allowed. The 18-month immediate custodial sentence was quashed and replaced with a sentence of 18 months’ custody suspended for 2 years with unpaid work and a rehabilitation activity requirement.
Ned was instructed by Chris Gaiger of GPG Solicitors.
