Edward Elton led Lucy Conroy in the trial which lasted more than 6 weeks. Two defendants changed their pleas to guilty part-way through the prosecution case, and the remaining 6 defendants were convicted by the jury on 11.03.26.
HMRC estimates that the lost duty on the cigarettes and hand-rolling tobacco, smuggled in and distributed by the conspirators, was in excess of £8 million.
Sentencing will take place in May.
