Rod is a popular and very experienced criminal practitioner who undertakes all areas of criminal work, both prosecuting and defending. Those instructing him find him easy to work with and respect his pragmatic approach. He regularly deals with cases concerning the supply of drugs, serious violence, firearms and people trafficking.

In addition he is often instructed in Court Martial cases as his 18 years of service in the Royal Navy equip him well for dealing with all matters of Military Law, service discipline and Court Martial procedure. Rod sat as a uniformed Judge Advocate before his retirement from the service.

Regulatory and Local Government

Rod is adept at dealing with a variety of Regulatory & Local Government prosecution work in addition to dealing with Licensing, Firearms, Police applications and Inquests.

Most of his prosecution work has been for trading standards offences, primarily focusing on consumer protection and rogue traders but also for counterfeiting and Trademark offences involving importation and distribution of counterfeit goods where he has worked alongside the South East Regional Crime Squad to secure successful prosecutions.

Given his prosecution experience, Rod is often instructed in disclosure matters on behalf of the Police in addition to SHPO applications, closure orders and frequently cash seizure/forfeiture cases.

Rod has advised and represented various parties in the Coroner’s Court, notable cases include care deaths, workplace fatalities and road traffic accidents including a fatal collision caused by a driver suffering a diabetic coma.

In addition Rod deals with licensing matters for local authorities and Police forces concerning taxis, premises and firearms.
