Richard is a well respected and popular member of the Criminal Team who has a strong following amongst defence solicitors and within the CPS.

He was called to the Bar in 1998 and has been working in criminal law ever since. Prior to joining 12CP he was a company director at a local firm of solicitors which has provided him with a unique understanding of how firms like to work with Counsel.

He has defended clients charged with almost every imaginable offence ranging from shop lifting to murder.

Richard appears almost exclusively in the Crown Court but, on occasions, appears in the Magistrates’ Court and the Court of Appeal.

He has substantial experience in defending all types of cases that involve sexual offences including those concerning historic abuse.

Richard is a Grade 3 prosecutor for the CPS dealing with a large number of complicated cases in the local area.

In addition to his other skills Richard speaks Spanish.

Regulatory and Local Government

Richard has a wealth of experience in most areas of Regulatory work with a particular interest in firearms law.

He often advises on the merits of appealing revocations of certificates with Richard conducting a number of full appeals in the Crown Court.
