Careworker convicted of theft

25 Jan 2018

Louisa Newton has pleaded guilty to theft from the 81 year old dementia sufferer she was responsible for looking after. Her thefts amounted to nearly £2,000 across over 50 transactions, prompting Recorder Jason Taylor to say "This was an abuse of trust, it was fraud conducted over a sustained period, deliberately targeting a vulnerable victim."

Newton must repay the money and complete 250 hours of unpaid work and a thinking skills programme. A 12-month jail sentence was suspended for 18 months.
