Crime:

Peter has considerable experience in most areas of crime, acting on behalf of both prosecution and defence.

In particular he has acted in many large cases involving the importation of drugs, serious violence and serious sex offences; and has a particular interest in the role of public interest immunity in the Crown Court. He has appeared in a number of leading cases including appearing in the House of Lords.

He has some experience of regulatory work and it is his intention to develop this area of his practice.

Inquests:

Peter has extensive experience of appearing in the Coroner's Court.

He has appeared in Inquests on behalf of the Home Office, Local  Authorities, H.M. Coastguard, the Air Accident Investigation Board and the family of the deceased. He has also appeared in appeals by way of Judicial Review.

Peter also gives CPD accredited seminars.

Inquests of Particular Interest:

  1. Numerous Inquests concerning the death, often by suicide, of inmates in H.M Prisons.
  2. The death at sea of a number of off-duty Police Officers. Police Officers on challenging sailing weekend set sail for Isle of Wight from Poole in a strong wind warning. Yacht capsized at entrance to Needles Channel.
  3. Death in a helicopter accident.
  4. Death of a scuba diver employed to search for unexploded bombs.
  5. Death of a protestor demonstrating against the exportation of live veal.
  6. Numerous Inquests concerning the death by drug overdose and / or suicide, often concerning whether it was appropriate for the deceased to have been released from hospital, and / or whether Social Services took the appropriate course of action.
  7. Inquests concerning the power of hospitals / Social Services to detain under the provisions of The Mental Health Act or in secure accommodation / powers to prevent voluntary discharge.
  8. Inquests concerning Art 2 'Right to Life' and systemic failure. 

Licensing:

Peter regularly appears for Police Authorities re premises alcohol licenses, which has included reviews for underage sales, and for the prevention of serious crime and disorder.
