Naveen has been a runner-up for the national Bar Pro-Bono Award and received a Special Mention from the Attorney-General for his voluntary work. In 2009 he helped launch a Housing Clinic for students attending the University of Southampton. He still runs this every month alongside an Employment Clinic.
Naveen has practiced in this area for over 15 years. With his considerable experience and knowledge of the law, he brings expertise to each individual case that he is instructed on.
Prior to joining Chambers, Naveen worked for a firm of solicitors and managed his own litigation caseload whilst advising clients on tactics and strategy.
Naveen represents parties at the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeals Tribunal, County Court and High Court. In particular he appears regularly at the London (South, Central, East), Watford, Reading and Southampton hearing centres.
He covers all areas including unfair dismissal, discrimination, TUPE, whistle-blowing and breach of contract claims. He is also able to assist with injunctive relief applications in the High Court where there has been a breach of covenant.
Naveen is available to draft pleadings, provide written advice, conduct Case Management Direction and Pre-Hearing Reviews. He has conducted numerous multi-day trials.
Naveen provides direct support to HR Officers and professionals nationwide on the handling of grievance and disciplinary processes, internal investigations, performance management, employee privacy matters, contractual issues, sickness absence management and the application of company policies. His clients have benefitted from considerable savings in legal fees by instructing Counsel from the outset.
Naveen can assist with the drafting of compliance policies, employee handbooks as well as the reviewing of existing company documentation. He regularly provides employment law training programs for HR and management (including the CIPD) as well as in-house to Local Government legal departments.
Naveen is a member of the Discrimination Law Association and Industrial Law Society.
HOUSING, LANDLORD & TENANT
Naveen has been covering possession and other related hearings at County Courts across London and the South of England since 2003. He acts for tenants, landlords (Private and Social) and commercial lenders.
He is well versed in arguments relating to the application of the Equality Act and Human Rights legislation.
Naveen is able to assist with the drafting of robust pleadings and provide concise (yet thorough) written advice on an urgent basis.
He has represented parties in numerous anti-social behaviour injunction matters and statutory Homelessness Reviews/Appeals as well as Judical Review cases. He also has experience of cases before the Property Chamber.
Naveen has a particular interest in disrepair claims and those concerned with awards of damages for the breach of the covenant of peaceable quiet enjoyment.
He has presented several seminars for members of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Naveen prides himself on being a truly independent and Professional Mediator. He has a wealth of experience as a Mediator and has successfully mediated in excess of 160 cases since 2002. He is listed in the top-tier of mediators by the Bar Council and is a member of the Civil Mediation Council.
Naveen has been Accredited as a Civil & Commercial Mediator by both the ADR Group and CEDR. He has also trained with the School of Mediation, RICS and is an Assessor for the Centre of Justice in London.
Naveen is a CMC Registered Workplace Mediator and can help employers who wish to resolve any dispute with their employees (or even between their employees) quickly and in a cost-effective manner.
More recently, Naveen has been involved with Housing Mediations (between tenants and their Social Landlord) and SEN Mediations (between parents and the Local Education Authority). He is patient and has the requisite soft-skills for practice in these areas.
Naveen also represent parties at mediation as a Mediation Advocate and is specifically sought out for this role given his considerable expertise as a skilled negotiator.
