Practice

Tom came to the bar after completing a masters degree specialising in Employment and Discrimination Law.  He accepts instructions in all areas of chambers practice but has a particular interest in employment, housing and general common law work.

Employment Law

Tom accepts instructions in all aspects of employment law.  He advises, drafts pleadings and represents both Claimant and Respondent clients in a wide range of employment matters including disability discrimination, sex discrimination, race discrimination, victimisation, equal pay, unfair dismissal, protected disclosure, disciplinary and grievance procedures and redundancy.

Tom has a particular interest in discrimination law and equal pay, having focused on the equality legislation stemming from the European Union during his masters degree. He has also given seminars in Chambers on matters of employment law and, most recently, equal pay. Tom accepts instructions as part of the Chambers limited means scheme where appropriate.

Housing And Landlord & Tenant

Tom has a growing practice in this field and has experience, in particular, of representing a number of Housing Associations across the South of England in possession proceedings (including trials on both the fast track and multi-track) and various applications, including ASBIs, and other injunctions in the County Court.

Common Law

Tom practises in general common law including personal injury, licensing, insolvency, consumer credit and contractual disputes.  He has experience of trials, case management hearings, disposal hearings and various applications in the County Court. 

Tom is particularly interested in personal injury work.  He regularly advises both Claimants and Defendants on liability and quantum and also works as an in-house adviser to the Treasury Solicitor's Department, advising and drafting pleadings for government departments (such as the Home Office, the Prison Service and  the Ministry of Justice) working primarily on personal injury and false imprisonment cases as well as on claims under the Human Rights Act.

He considers requests to accept personal injury instructions on Conditional Fee Agreements.

In the licensing field, he appears before local authority licensing sub-committees in applications for liqour licences.

Tom also has some experience in insolvency work and has represented clients at various hearings including petitions and applications to set aside statutory demands in both the County Court and High Court.

Tom is also interested in developing a chancery law practice and is keen to undertake work in all areas of land law as well as wills and trusts work.

Crime

Tom prosecutes and defends in both the Magistrates' and Crown Courts.  He has experience of prosecuting in both trials and sentencing hearings for agencies such as the National Probation Service and the Department Of Work And Pensions.
