Town & Country Planning
Peter has appeared at a number of major inquiries in Hampshire, including those into the relocation proposals for Southampton FC and Portsmouth FC; major retail proposals at Hedge End, Burslesdon and Whiteley; town centre proposals at Fareham and West Quay; enabling development at Broadlands; and the M3 Twyford Down inquiry.
He has promoted Local Plan proposals for a wide range of local authorities in Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and, most recently, for Bath & North East Somerset. He has also appeared for a number of objectors, including major landowners and developers, at Local Plan inquiries throughout southern England.
He has represented both minerals authorities and public and private companies at a range of minerals and waste inquiries involving both Local Plan proposals and specific development or enforcement issues, including sites in very sensitive locations. He has particular experience of ecological matters and has been instructed by English Nature in several cases.
He has experience of conducting cases in the High Court concerning planning issues.
Local Government
Peter has experience of advising various authorities upon different aspects of local government law including judicial review, probity, the ombudsman and various statutory duties. He has appeared twice in the House of Lords in such cases. He has spoken at a number of seminars arranged for members and officers of local authorities.
Other Civil
Peter also accepts instructions in private and commercial disputes relating to property and personal insolvency.
Serious Crime
His past experience includes prosecutions on behalf of the DTI, English Nature, H M Customs & Excise and the CPS. More recent instructions have been to prosecute or defend cases of multi-handed robbery, fraud, supply of Class A drugs, child cruelty, murder, kidnap and rape. As a Recorder he is authorised to try Serious Sexual Offence cases.
